The IFMIF-DONES Facility will be classified as a 1st Category Radioactive Facility according to the Spanish Regulations. As such, its commissioning and operation are subjected to the license permit granted by the Spanish nuclear regulatory body, Consejo de Seguridad Nuclear (CSN). The unicity and one-of-kind characteristics of IFMIF-DONES (both in Spain and worldwide) requires the development of the applicable Regulatory Framework for this license permit that guarantees very low acceptable risks for the Worker, the Public and the Environment. Systematic failure modes analyses are being carried out with the identification of reference accidents scenarios and candidates to safety credited equipment and design features. International guidelines and examples from licensed facilities in other countries that can be a reference for the different safety issues of IFMIF-DONES are being considered. In this way, the Regulatory Framework is being translated from the top-level to the low-level safety requirements and administrative procedures that shall be assumed by the IFMIF-DONES Users and experiment proposals in a bidirectional conversation with Safety, so the scientific requests can be properly fulfilled. This contribution will provide an overview of this Framework and main principles, highlighting Safety aspects relevant to the DONES Users Community while pursuing valuable feedback to be integrated in this process.
