CIEMAT (Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas) is a leading science and technology research center affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Focusing on energy, the environment, and related technologies, CIEMAT serves as a bridge between knowledge generation and practical application, actively promoting the transfer of R&D&I to society and the industrial sector. With its solid track record and distinctly multidisciplinary approach, CIEMAT contributes to sustainable development by generating excellent scientific knowledge and integrating it into today's major technological challenges.

CIEMAT's National Fusion Laboratory (LNF) is Spain's foremost center for fusion research, coordinating national participation in major European and international programmes. The LNF’s work encompasses fundamental research into high-temperature plasmas, as well as the development of the technologies necessary for future fusion reactors. These include advanced materials, tritium generation and management systems, and solutions for operating and maintaining these facilities. Furthermore, the LNF centralizes scientific and technological capabilities in this field, integrating unique infrastructure and a broad network of collaborations with universities, research centers and industries.

In this context, CIEMAT's relationship with IFMIF-DONES is a key strategic element. From the project's inception, the organization has maintained a continuous and decisive role, contributing to the scientific, technical and organizational development of the infrastructure, as well as to its integration into major European fusion roadmaps. This sustained participation is supported by extensive experience in international programmes and in the coordination of key European initiatives, reinforcing its role in the advancement of this technology. CIEMAT’s contribution includes the development and validation of critical technologies, such as accelerator-related systems, liquid metal circuits and irradiation facilities, together with the implementation of advanced scientific and technical infrastructures that support the project.

This collaboration has strengthened the scientific and industrial ecosystem, promoting the participation of multiple stakeholders and aligning national capabilities with European strategic objectives. The close and sustained link with IFMIF-DONES reflects an effective integration of research, technological development and large-scale innovation, and represents a relevant contribution to the progress of fusion energy within the international scientific landscape.
